I got Molly and Friends Model Scr-XL Extra Large Handmade Carpet and Sisal Cat Scratcherwhen we got a second cat.  Molly and Friends products come highly recommended.

This scratching post is 33 inches tall, which means that our cats have all the vertical space they need for stretching up and toning their muscles.
The post is nice and sturdy with a large 19” by 19” base.  The cats pounce on the post at full speed, and it doesn’t tip over.  That’s definitely a plus because we’ve had posts that would fall over and get cat hairs everywhere.
The post is made with durable materials such as a solid pine post; a thick, natural sisal rope; and carpeting.  We’re not fond of the carpeting portion of the post because it gets picked and we have to trim it to keep it looking nice.

This post came fully assembled, but the box it came in had no packing material.  I was concerned that it may have suffered unseen damage, but it’s shown no sign of damage.

I always look to buy things that are made in the USA, and this high quality Molly and Friends scratching post is handmade in the USA.

The post is a beige color and blends nicely with the décor in our home.

The most important thing about this scratching post is that the cats are all over it instead of scratching up other things in the house.  They’ll even perch on top of it.

Pros:

  • Tall enough for the cats to stretch up. There’s no sense getting a scratching post that isn’t tall enough for the cats to do a full stretch as they’re working their claws, which they need for their muscles.  This post has all the height needed.
  • Well-constructed.  With the wide base, solid pine post, the durable sisal, and the quality carpeting, this is truly a well-built scratching post.
  • Has sisal rope for scratching.  Sisal is very durable and holds up well with a lot of use.  It looks like new even after lots of heavy scratching.
  • Doesn’t tip over.  The cats can pounce on this post and attack it at any speed, and it doesn’t tip over.

Cons:

  • It’s boxed poorly.  This post comes fully assembled, but there’s no packing material, which just made me a little concerned that the post may have suffered damage in shipping.  My suggestion is that Molly and Friends practice better packing of their fine products, though our post is apparently fine.
  • The carpet portion gets pulls that have to be cut off. The portion of the post that has carpeting instead of sisal doesn’t wear as well as the sisal portion and we cut off the snagged carpet threads to keep it from looking raggedy.

I definitely recommend getting Molly and Friends Extra Large Handmade Carpet and Sisal Cat Scratcher, Model Scr-XL, Beige if you want your cats to have a place where they can enjoy scratching more than they like scratching your furniture.  It’s a well-made product that likes fine with the furniture.  It’s worth the price.
